The Display - an encoded version of text from a book. Each black character in the display represents a character in the plain text. No character can represent itself. Depending on the difficulty level, 2 characters may already be converted (you can change the size of Code and Key tiles in 'Settings')

The Challenge - to convert the encoded text into plain text (within the time limit for all levels other than the Practice Level) and then name the author. Once you are familiar with how to play you can increase the difficulty level in 'Settings'. The clock on all levels other thasn the practice level will count down to zero rather than up.

How to Play - The idea is to swap letters. To do so identify the coded character to be changed and tap on that letter on the keypad. It will turn yellow as will all those letters in the display. Then tap on the keypad character that you wish to swap it to. The selected character will turn green on the keypad and all highlighted characters in the display will be converted to the selected character and displayed in red. The yellow character on the keypad will revert to its original colour.

Correcting Mistakes - If you make a mistake then just double tap the letter on the keypad that you wish to change, making sure that it turns yellow before making the second tap. All those characters already converted (ie those in red) will revert to their coded values.

The End Point - If the text is correctly decoded you will then be asked to select the author from a list of 6. If the text is not decoded in time you will be able to retry up to 5 times.

Hints

The timer does not start until you tap the first key so try to identify the space character before starting
The most common letter (after space) is 'e'
Many 3 letter words are 'the' and 'and'
Any single letter words are likely to be 'a' or 'I'
Any words ending in 'g' are likely to end in '-ing'
As you begin to run out of time remember those words that you have already identified. That will give you a head start on future attempts
Finally, a reminder - you can change the size of Code and Key tiles in 'Settings'
